Dubbed "Australia's #1 Funk & Soul Band" in Xpress Magazine 2007, Detour draws upon inspiration laid down by the forefathers of Soul such as Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and James Brown; as well as Hip Hop/R&B influences of more recent times including Soulive, The Roots, Tribe Called Quest, and D'Angelo.

Since the conception of the group in 2004 these musicians of unprecedented talent have carved a niche for themselves in the Western Australian music scene with their unique improvisational style. The group have entertained crowds at venues such as Quarry Amphitheatre, Metro City, The Deen, Llama Bar and Universal Bar.
